Angels' Cup is a coffee tasting club that delivers 100% arabica, single origin coffees, from top “third-wave” roasters. You get to taste their coffee blind, enhancing your tasting experience.
According to Wikipedia:
“Third wave of coffee is a movement to produce high-quality coffee, and consider coffee as an artisanal foodstuff, like wine, rather than a commodity. This involves improvements at all stages of production, from improving coffee plant growing, harvesting, and processing, to stronger relationships between coffee growers, traders, and roasters, to higher quality and fresh roasting, at times called “microroasting” (by analogy with microbrew beer), to skilled brewing.
Third wave coffee aspires to the highest form of culinary appreciation of coffee, so that one may appreciate subtleties of flavor, varietal, and growing region ā similar to other complex consumable plant-derived products such as wine, tea, and chocolate. Distinctive features of third wave coffee include direct trade coffee, high-quality beans (see specialty coffee for scale), single-origin coffee (as opposed to blends), lighter roasts, and latte art. It also includes revivals of alternative methods of coffee preparation, such as vacuum coffee and pour-over brewing devices such as the Chemex and Hario V60.”

Angels' Cup Coffee Review ā December 2018
The Angels' Cup Black Box is really a beautiful black box!
The blue label tells you more about this coffee tasting service. You get 4 samples of coffee where you can blind taste test them.
The back of the box shows you how much ground coffee you should use per amount of water. When you order from Angels' Cup, you can specify whether you want light or dark roast, and you can also choose a fine or coarse coffee.
The inside of the box gives you instructions on how to get the best tasting experience. First, you brew the coffee, taste it, record notes and rate the coffee in their mobile app, and compare your answers/ratings to other Angels' Cup members.
The packaging is really first class ā I could see how it would make a great gift to anyone who loves coffee.
Each sample bag of coffee has a coffee number and a date when the coffee was roasted.
You also get blind tasting cards so you can guess the origin of the coffee.
Now, on to the coffee tasting!
Coffee #6690
We got a light roast with a coarse ground.
Since I only have 1 coffee drinker in my household, my single serve coffee maker was perfect to taste these coffee samples one by one!
Here's a look at the first coffee. This had a nice rich, golden color. I used 2 tbs of coffee with 8 oz of water for this coffee.
I used my new favorite mug from the Boss Lady Swag Box.
This coffee smelled really amazing.
After adding a bit of creamer, this coffee was ready to taste!
Coffee #6690 was both citrusy and sweet.
This coffee was from Gimme! Coffee and source from Ethiopia. The elevation of the beans was 2,100 MASL (meters above sea level). The flavors that I tasted were the lemon, grapefruit, and brown sugar.
Coffee #6687
Coffee #6687 was pretty good, but maybe to light for my taste. The Roaster is Brandywine Coffee and the beans were sourced from Colombia. elevation of the beans was 1,700 MASL with a variety of Purple Caturra. I could definitely taste the Black Cherry and Florals in this coffee.
Coffee #6688
Coffee #6688 tasted really amazing. I loved the toffee flavor! This time, I used 3 tbs for an 8 oz cup which really improved the strength of the coffee roaster of this coffe was CafƩ Grumpy and the beans were sourced from Guatemala. The elevation of the beans was 1500-1800 MASL. I think maybe I liked this coffee the best because it is a stronger roast than the other coffees.
Coffee #6689
Coffee #6689 had a great taste and was also a bit citrusy. The roaster of this coffee was Modcup Coffee and the beans were sourced from Mexico. The beans came from an elevation of 1200-1500 MASL with a variety of H3. I liked this coffee because of the milk chocolate undertones ā anything with chocolate is a bonus for me!
Here are some screenshots of the iphone App that you can use to record your tasting experience. You can see that you can add a 1-10 number rating, notes, and see how other Angel's Cup members rated the same coffee that you tasted.
In Summary
We had a really fun, first-class coffee tasting experience with our first Angels' Cup review. I especially loved the toffee flavored coffee and will definitely be buying more on the Angels' Cup website.
If you know a coffee lover (and I know many!), Angels' Cup coffee subscription box would make a great gift. For only $10.99 per month, you can get 12 cups of artisan coffee (if you use 3 tbs per 8 oz) that you wouldn't find in the grocery store. I would highly recommend this box to anyone who enjoys a cup of joe!
