Datebox Review August 2018
Datebox comes in a cute little box! The red lettering helps you get into the romantic mood!
What's Inside Datebox
Here's the first look inside Datebox. It looks like this month's box is a Medieval theme, but we'll see!
The top of the inside of the box says that every Datebox will bring you together and will help you create memorable experiences! I think every relationship needs that!
You get a booklet with all of the instructions you need to start your date! The cover of this booklet says “Enter the Masquerade”.
The inside cover of the book says the theme is the Rennaissance era and will take you to Venice, Italy. I've been to Venice and it is an amazing, canal-filled town!
The “What's Included Card” gives you a preview of what's inside the box.
This box includes items to make cannolis (yum!!!), masks (it looks like face painting masks), and a game.
This card tells you what materials you will need to provide. The only thing I didn't have on hand was the ricotta chese, so this date had to wait until I could make a run to the grocery store.
Datebox gives you a Spotify playlist to get in the mood, 3 activities you can do in your at-home date, and conversation starters.
Here are the items that were included in the box. It's a mix of food items and activities!
Cannolis
Datebox included most of the ingredients to make cannolis with my hubby. I was surprised to see actual cannoli shell in this box (since they are so delicate!), but they were wrapped in bubble wrap, so they were intact for the most part. I loved see mini chocolate chips and sugar – you can't go wrong with those two ingredients!
The booklet gave us the recipe to put these amazing little cannolis together, and this is how they turned out!
This was our very first time making cannolis and I would have to say they looked pretty good. We really enjoyed eating these little treasures too! My hubby put the filling between 2 graham crackers that we had in our pantry (he is gluten-free). And he really liked it!
Make Your Masks
Datebox provided blue and red face paint and a paint brush so we could make our own masks for the masquerade. They also included instructions in the booklet on how to apply the paint to your faces. Hubby and I elected to opt out of this activity, only because I didn't want to deal with cleaning up my face! But, I'm guessing some of you would really be into this activity. We'll save this face paint for our kids. 🙂 I do like that the face paint is paraben free and fragrance free.
Masquerade Game
This red box had the contents of the Masquerade board game.
Inside the box was the playing board, 2 velvet bags with dice and game tokens, 3 cards, and the game instructions.
The object of this game was to roll your own dice (6 total dice for each person), and make matches to win the heart of the socialite for each area on the game board. Once you won the heart of the socialite, your date can't vy for that person's attention and must move on to the next socialite. The first person to get 25 prestige points, wins the game.
Hubby and I played this game on our front porch while the kids were winding down before bed with TV time. We used the game box to contain the dice outside.
This game was a bit like Yahtzee, but with a game board. We played 3 times, and I won all 3 games. Luckily, hubby was a good sport and attributed my wins to luck. 🙂
We had a lot of fun playing this game and will definitely play this again! This game is portable so we could definitely take it on a trip.
What did we think of this month's Datebox?
As a mom of 3 kids, my hubby and I try to schedule a date night once every couple of months, but that's not enough! Datebox definitely help me spend some quality time with my hubby without having to schedule a babysitter in advance! We actually split these activities over a couple of days since we're so busy during the week. The cannoli making and masquerade games were absolute hits, but the face painting wasn't really our thing. In the day of constant use of cells phones, computers, and iPads, Datebox gives you everything you need to connect sans technology!
