My Explorations Space Scouts Review – 1st Month

What is Space Scouts?

Each month your child will explore a new place in Space — stepping into the worlds of space exploration, space science, and astronomy. This program is 24 months, but you can cancel anytime. Each month builds upon learning from the previous months.

This subscription is great for kids ages 6-12.

Price per month: $11.95

Shipping: $3

Here's a look at the shipping box.

Introduction to Space Scouts Info Sheet

This introductory sheet explains what you get with the Space Scouts program. Roxy and Jett will guide your child through an adventure through the solar system!

Space Scouts Lunch Box

The Space Scouts lunchbox is used for magnets that your child will collect every month. This is a nice lunchbox that we will also use to corral some small toys!

Solar System Poster

Each month, you'll get a sticker to add to this very cool Solar System Poster. This poster came just in time for my 9-year old, who decided he wanted a space themed bedroom a few weeks ago!

Constellation Card Cover and Ring

You also get a Constellation Card Cover and Metal Ring. Each month, you'll get a new constellation card that you can add to this ring.

Introduction to Constellations Cards

This info sheet describes what constellations are and how people told stories about them in the past to help them remember what their patterns and shapes.

On the back of this sheet, was a constellation activity sheet.

Space Sticker Scramble

This was the first activity that my 11-year old daughter and 7-year old son fought over! I made sure they took turns adding the stickers to the blank card.

This was the finished product! This is a really cool picture representing space!

Souvenir Activity / Toy

We also got some Wikki Stix – which can be used to mold into whatever you want!

The first month of Space Scouts will set you up for the remainder of the program – it's cool to see how this program builds on itself month after month!

My Explorations Space Scouts Review – 2nd Month

The second month of Space Scouts comes in a white padded mailer.

Here's a first look at what we received:

Scout Plan – Astronauts

The Scout Plan sheet gives you information about the Earth and the Moon. These were really fun facts for my kids! Who knew that the earth is 8,000 miles in diameter!

Planet Magnet for the Lunchbox

This month we got the “moon” magnet – which fit perfectly on our Space Scouts Lunch Box from the 1st month.

Sticker for the Poster

The US flag sticker is a perfect for the moon magnet we just got, and gives you a chance to plant the US flag on the moon, just like US astronauts did so long ago!

My son was super excited about this! He put the US flag sticker on the space poster that we got in the first month.

He also had to find the moon, which he already knew was closest to the earth.

Constellation Card for the Collection

This month, the constellation card was for Ursa Minor (a.k.a., the Little Dipper).

We added this Ursa Minor card to the Constellation Collection ring from the first month. This card collection will be nice for my kids to reference when they go star gazing at night!

There's an info sheet on Ursa Minor and the story behind how this constellation was name based on legend. My kids really enjoyed learning about this story!

Activity Sheets

The space activity sheets have space themed puzzles.

Puzzles are perfect for my kids and I love that they are learning more about space too!

My 7-year old learned that a “waxing” moon means the crescent is increasing, and a “waning” moon means the crescent is decreasing.

He also learned he would only weigh a whopping 6 lbs on the moon! I think that's about what he weighed on Earth when he was born.

Word searches are always popular with my kids!

Moon Sticker Scramble

This moon themed sticker scramble was another highly sought after activity!

Here's the finished product after my son was done with it.

Flipbook Activity Pack

A flipbook activity pack was also included. The key here is to color the pages and then separate them (they are already perforated) and connect them using the purple binder clip.

A real flip book was included and we really thought this book was the bomb!!!

You get 3 animated pictures with this one book!

I could see myself buying this flip book while visiting NASA in Houston or Florida. It's a little animated movie in a book!

Summary

For only $15/month, this Space Scouts subscription has a lot of value! It helped my kids learn more about space – constellations, planets, etc. – in a fun and engaging way. My kids really enjoyed all of the space themed activities – especially the sticker scrambles and the flip book!

This space themed subscription for kids would make a great gift for your kids, grandkids, nieces, or nephews. I would highly recommend it with Christmas right around the corner!
