Home Made Luxe Monstera Clay Bowls Review

Home Made Luxe ships their box is an art supplies inspired box!

Here's our first peek into the box.

This Home Made Luxe insert has instructions to make the Monstera Clay Bowls craft kit.

There are detailed instructions with photos which is really nice for a beginner or even an advanced crafter.

If you tag your project Instagram with @homemadeluxe or #homemadeluxe you can be entered to win a free box.

This box included a card about the makers of this box. In this case the makers were named Keitha and Lia.

The makers of the Monstera Clay Bowls are Keitha, who is the Blogger and founder of Home Made Luxe. The other maker is Lia, who is the founder and creative director of Lia Griffith.

Once we lifted the instruction card, this is what we saw in the box.

Now, let's get on to what's included in the box.

First, we got air-dry clay. Now, we didn't work on this project for probably about at least a month after we got the box and the clay was still malleable and pliable. I was pretty impressed that the clay lasted this long!

The next item is DecoArt Americana green acrylic paint. This will be used to paint the Clay Bowls.

Then we saw a gold paint pen. This will be used to outline the edge of the bowl and gold paint.

We also got an X-Acto Cut-All knife. This is used to cut the clay using the leaf template that was provided with the box.

Here is the leaf template. It looks like it was designed by Lia Griffith.

We also got a foam brush and a detailed brush that will be used to apply the green paint to the bowls.

We also got a piece of sandpaper that will be used to smooth out the clay edges once the clay has dried.

Now let's get out of the actual crafting!

We started out by rolling the air-dry clay with a rolling pin.

Then once rolled out to a thickness of about 3-5 CM we use the X-Acto knife (which was included) to cut the clay using the leaf template. Cutting through paper into the clay was really like cutting through butter. The X-Acto knife made it really easy to do.

After I lifted the paper template (once it was cut) this is what I got and I was able to lift off the surrounding clay very easily.

I added some more detail with the X-Acto knife, adding the leaf veins, and this is what the resulting leaf looked like.

The instructions said to use a glass bowl to create a curved band on the edges of the leaf so this is how I did it.

The Clay Bowls need to dry for 24 hours at least. I actually put mine outside in the sun and then we got a rain shower in the afternoon. I was able to bring the wet clay in and it dried overnight.

Here's a close-up of the dried clay.

I use the included sandpaper to smooth out the rough edges.

Now it's time for painting! The instructions said to use the foam brush to apply the green paint in large strokes.

I worked on the large leaf and my daughter worked on the smaller leaf.

Here's what the paint looked like kind mid-process as I was painting the large leaf.

I use the included detailed brush to fill in the crevices that the foam brush couldn't reach.

And this is what the finished leaf looked like once it was painted completely green.

After I let the paint dry, which took a couple of hours, I use the gold paint pen to add some gold accents on the outer edges of the leaves.

And this is what my finished product look like. How cute are these bowls?!

These Monstera Clay Bowls are perfect for holding jewelry, keys, or any other small trinkets. They add a nice design touch to any space that you put them in.

These are balls that you could give to someone or keep around for many years to come.

The Verdict

I'm really impressed with how these Monstera Clay bowls turned out given I've never really worked with air-dry clay. Home Made Luxe made it really easy to work on a craft that I was super new to and it was nice to spend time creatively with my daughter.

Home Made Luxe would make a really great gift for the busy mom more or grandmother that you may know. We all need to take some time out from our phones and TV and learn to make things with our hands.
