Kids Book Case Club March 2019 Review

The Kids Book Case Club ships in a blue box. We are reviewing the pre-teen book case.

Their books are neatly wrapped in Book Case Club themed tissue paper.

Here's our first peek into the box!

Ferals by Jacob Grey – $5.99 on Amazon (4 out of 5 stars)

This was the first book that my 11 year old daughter picked out to read. This book is about a boy who lives with crows who lost his parents. It's similar to the plot in Harry potter. If you like Harry Potter, you'll probably like this book! All of my kids are huge fans of Harry Potter!

Here's a summary of this book from Amazon:

“Ferals is the first book in a dark, action-packed trilogy that’s part The Graveyard Book, part Batman, and all high-octane adventure.

Blackstone was once a thriving metropolis. But that was before the Dark Summer—a wave of violence and crime that swept through the city eight years ago, orchestrated by the fearsome Spinning Man. Now the Spinning Man is on the move again, and a boy named Caw is about to be caught in his web.

Caw has never questioned his ability to communicate with crows. But as the threat of a new Dark Summer looms, Caw discovers the underground world of Blackstone’s ferals—those with the power to control animals. Caw is one of them. And to save his city, he must quickly master abilities he never knew he had . . . and prepare to defeat a darkness he never could have imagined.”

This Is Not the Abby Show by Debbie Reed Fischer – $11.89 on Amazon (5 out of 5 stars)

I know my daughter will also enjoy this book. This book is about a 7th grader who has ADHD but also had to deal with typical middle school fun and challenges. Abby is funny so this book is very entertaining!

Here's a summary of this book from Amazon:

“Abby was born for the spotlight. Now it’s her time to shine!

Abby is twice exceptional—she is gifted in math and science, and she has ADHD. Normally, she has everything pretty much under control. But when Abby makes one HUGE mistake that leads to “The Night That Ruined My Life,” or “TNTRML,” she lands in summer school.

Abby thinks the other summer-school kids are going to be total weirdos. And what with her parents’ new rules, plus all the fuss over her brother’s bar mitzvah, her life is turning into a complete disaster. But as Abby learns to communicate better and finds friends who love her for who she is, she discovers that her biggest weaknesses could be her greatest assets.

Hilarious and heartwarming, This Is Not the Abby Show is for everyone who knows that standing out is way more fun than blending in.”

Journey's End by Rachel Hawkins – $11.89 for the hardcover on Amazon (4.5 out of 5 stars)

This is a great fantasy adventure for a upper elementary and middle school kids. You'll learn about a fabulous friendship between 2 girls and a boy – with mystery throughout!

Here's a summary of this book on Amazon:

New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins brings us a riveting middle grade fantasy-adventure perfect for fans of Lisa Graff.

The town of Journey's End may not literally be at the end of the world, but it sure feels like it to Nolie Stanhope. Spending the summer with her scientist father in the tiny Scottish village isn't exactly Nolie's idea of a good time, but she soon finds a friend: native Journey's Ender Bel McKissick.

While Nolie's father came to Journey's End to study the Boundary – a mysterious fog bank offshore – Bel's family can't afford to consider it a threat. The McKissicks' livelihood depends on the tourists drawn by legends of a curse. Still, whether you believe in magic or science, going into the Boundary means you'll never come back.

Unless you do. Albert Etheridge, a boy who disappeared into the Boundary in 1914, suddenly returns – without having aged a day and with no memory of the past 100 years. Then the Boundary starts creeping closer to the town, threatening to consume everyone within.

While Nolie's father wants to have the village evacuated, Bel's parents lead the charge to stay in Journey's End. Meanwhile, Albert and the girls look for ways to stop the encroaching boundary, coming across an ancient Scottish spell that requires magic, a quest, and a sacrifice.
