Annie's CardMaker Kit-of-the-Month Club November 2020 Review “Fun with Washi” Edition
Annie's CardMaker Kit shipped this kit in a yellow padded mailer.
Here's our first peek at this month's kit!
The theme of this month's kit is “Fun with Washi”. I'm really excited about using washi tape since I haven't really used this medium before! Also, the teal, grey, and lime green colors in this kit go really well together!
The instruction booklet has full color photos and instructions to help you make 4 different cards (unfortunately, I didn't get closeup shots of the instruction booklet this month). Annie's includes enough materials to make 8 cards.
This kit includes:
- Cards
- Envelopes
- Colored Card Stock
- 6 Rolls of Washi Tape
- Metal Brads
- Ribbon
- Twine
- Self-cling Rubber Stamps
I'll also need to supply:
- Cardmaker Tool Kit (as seen in our first review of Annie's CardMaker Club)
- Black Ink (I like StayzOn and Tsukineko VersaFine ink pads)
- Pencil
- Scissors or paper cutter (I have this Fiskars Paper Trimmer)
- Adhesives (I use TomBow Mono Permanent Adhesive, foam adhesive from Amazon, and Scotch Tacky Glue.)
This month's cardmaking techniques are Working with Washi Tape, Layering, Stamping, and Attaching Brads.
One of the newer techniques in this month's kit is using washi tape. Washi tape isn't super sticky, so you can reposition it easily before “burnishing” or rubbing the edges in so it sticks permanently. I used my bone folder to rub the washi tape in.
Thanks Card with Washi Tape
Here's what the front of the finished card looks like once I cut off the excess washi tape, added the “Thanks” stamp, and metal brads. I really like the washi tape patterns – they are really appealing to the eye!
Hello Hello Card with Washi Tape
This card used the chevron washi tape and a stamped “hello hello” message to make this card. Creating arrows and alternating the direction of the washi tape makes this pattern super interesting to look at! The cool grey and teal colors are very much on-trend as well!
Happy Birthday Card with Washi Tape
This happy birthday card look simple, but was the most difficult to make! The main issue was trying to align the tape to create a flag on the silver twine. I really like the design of this card, but making flimsy washi tape was really hard. 🙂 I survived though and was still able to create this unique, beautiful birthday card.
Birthday Cake on a Pedestal Card with Washi Tape
This lime green and grey card was created using diagonal washi tape patterns. The birthday cake itself was a green rectangular piece of washi tape place on top of a stamped cake pedestal with stamped birthday candles on top! I am looking for more masculine cards, and this card could definitely be given to a guy!
Birthday Celebration Card with Washi Tape
I made this card using the blue and grey washi tape to create a diagonal design! I also stamped on the “Birthday Celebration” message and added the metal brads and blue ribbon. This looks like a simple card, but has a lot of fine details. I really like it!
In Summary
I was so glad to be introduced to working with Washi Tape as a card making medium. It's colorful and easy to work with! The colors in this kit were on-trend and modern. I will be happy to give these cards to my family and friends! Annie's makes it so easy to put together designer-looking handmade cards – you can follow their instructions and/or create your own unique card designs!
