Kekao Dark Chocolate Subscription Box Review + Coupon

KekaoDarkChocolateBoxReview-Jan 2019

This is our first review of the Kekao Dark Chocolate Subscription Box. I was so excited to review this box: 1) because I pretty much eat dark chocolate every night to satisfy my sweet tooth and 2) I am an admitted chocoholic!

I started eating dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate a few years ago because it has a relatively lower carb count and is a superfood! Cacao is in its raw form is packed with antioxidants, and is high in nutrients like iron, magnesium and zinc.

What is Kekao Box?

He has been in search of where to source the best premium dark chocolate, so this  box does the work of finding great chocolate for you!

Now, let's see what's inside the box!

Kekao Dark Chocolate Subscription Box Review

Kekao Box sends their dark chocolate in a square box with a K.Co Chocolate Purveyors stamp.

The presentation of this box would make Kekao a really nice gift for the chocolate lover in your life! The printed burlap bag and rusting filling is a nice touch!

Three dark chocolate bars were inside the bag:

Madecasse Madagascar Sea Salt & Nibs Dark Chocolate with 63% Cocoa ($11.79 on Amazon)

This Madecasse Madagascar Sea Salt & Nibs Dark Chocolate bar is made with Heirloom cocoa, which makes it very flavorful. The cocoa in this chocolate is sourced directly from cocoa farmers in Madagascar.

This bar is made with 63% cocoa and is organic. ½ a bar is 18 grams of carbs. The bar was made in Italy, and is gluten free, soy free, and vegan.

This dark chocolate bar had just the right blend of sweetness and saltiness! It had a slight crunch from the cocoa nibs and was slight citrusy as well. The sea salt added just the right amount of saltiness.

I do have to say that this bar was my favorite of the box! I think I probably ate a little more than I should have, but it was sooooo good!

Mission Chocolate by Arcelia Gallardo with 80% Cocoa (est. $10)

This Mission Chocolate bar was made in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the cocoa in this bar was sourced from a single estate in the Atlantic Rainforest. After tasting the first bar from Madagascar, I was super excited to try some chocolate from Brazil! The floral packaging is really beautiful!

This bar has 80% cocoa content, and has 10 grams of carbs for 1/3 of the bar.

After tasting this bar, I found it to be slightly bitter but with a toffee/raisin taste. I haven't tasted a dark chocolate bar with this taste combo, so it was quite a treat!

The alternating pattern of this chocolate bar is quite nice to look at!

Green & Black Organic Dark Chocolate with 85% Cocoa ($3.49 at Target)

This Green & Black Organic Dark Chocolate bar has 85% cocoa. This bar was made in Poland. I've had Green & Black's dark chocolate before, but I haven't tried this bar before.

This bar is both fair trade and organic. 1/3 of this chocolate bar has on 9 grams of net carbs, so this bar would be great for anyone watching their carb intake.

I tend to shy away from dark chocolate with 90% cocoa, only because they are too bitter for me. I was pleasantly surprised by the deep flavor of this chocolate! It had a subtle sweetness and was very satisfying.

I will definitely be buying more of this chocolate, and I'm super excited that I can buy it at my local grocery store!

In Summary

The Kekao Dark Chocolate box helped me taste premium dark chocolate bars from different parts the world. This box turned me on to brands and higher cocoa content that I wouldn't normally buy.

I loved the Madecasse Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate Bar and adored the Green & Black's bar as well. I tend to stick to dark chocolate with 70% or less cocoa, but I was pleasantly surprised with the rich and different taste of the chocolate bars in this box. The higher the cocoa, the better the health benefits!

While the retail value of this box didn't quite add up to the $29.99/month you would pay for this box, Kekao does the curation and searching of really great chocolate for you. I do think the Kekao box would make a great gift for any dark chocolate lovers in your life!
