As a petite woman, finding clothes that fit just right can sometimes feel like a quest for the holy grail. Enter Short Story Box, the subscription service designed for those of us 5'4″ and under, promising to end our long search for perfectly proportioned attire. So, how does it measure up?
My latest box arrived a little beat up, but wrapped in anticipation and the promise of a wardrobe refresh.
Here's a peek at what I found inside. The clothes were neatly wrapped in tissue paper.
The info sheet spells out everything that I got in this box. This is my second box from Short Story.
They also included a pricing list. Short Story doesn’t provide discounts if you buy the whole box, like Stitch Fix does, but that’s okay! I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me, so I'm willing to pay a little more.
Now, let’s take a closer look at what I got!
PETITE ASSEMBLY Mira Jumpsuit in Rust, XSP – $79
A bold statement piece in a rust color. However, jumpsuits and I have a complicated relationship, and this one wasn't the one to mend it. Its journey with me ends here; it's headed back.
LAILA JAYDE Pintuck Peasant Top in Deep Blue Sea, SP – $48
This top is like a deep breath of ocean air. The color, the shirring, the fit—it's all a perfect storm of petite perfection. This one's a keeper.
COMMON THREADS Roxanne Stripe Sweater, XSP/SP – $64
Despite its cozy stripes and soft promise, this striped sweater was too big. It seems my petite frame was lost in its well-intended hug. This will be going back.
SOJOURN Kelsea Double Ruffle Top in Hunter Green, XSP – $44
Now this top is a love story. The fit, the flirty ruffles, and the hunter green—a color I rarely wear, but will now. We're a match made in petite heaven.
PETITE ASSEMBLY Pamina Cupro V-Neck Popover in Teal, SP – $45
This teal color didn't speak my language, and the boxy fit was lost in translation. This v-neck is going back.
1822 DENIM Better Butter Classic Denim Jacket, XS – $79
Ah, the classic denim jacket—reimagined for the petite form and in black! It's modern, it's cute, and it's going to be my new office staple.
PETITE ASSEMBLY Robbie Straight Leg Pant, XSP – $78
Quality that almost had me, but the waist and I couldn't see eye to eye. A little too snug, it's with a heavy heart that I say goodbye.
Short Story Box understands the trial of the try-on. They give you five days to make your decisions (with an extension just an email away). Once you're set, the returns are as simple as repacking in the provided mailing bag and sending them off with the prepaid shipping label. You only pay a $25 styling credit that you can use towards any clothing that you decide to keep.
Overall: In this box, I’ll keep 3 of the 7 items they sent me. That’s a pretty good hit rate for a clothing subscription box! Short Story Box offer a great selection of stylish and well-made clothes specifically designed for petite frames. The SOJOURN Kelsea Double Ruffle Top, the LAILA JAYDE Pintuck Peasant Top, and the 1822 DENIM Jacket have won my heart and a place in my closet.
Final Thoughts: If you're a petite woman tired of clothes that don't fit quite right, I recommend giving Short Story Box a try. You might just discover your new favorite outfit!
