Annie CardMaker Kit-of-the-Month Club February 2020 Review “Sweet Birthday”

Annie's sends their monthly card kits in a purple mailer.

This is our first peek at what we got in this month's kit!

Each month, Annie's includes a colored instruction booklet. You can see that this month's theme of “Sweet Birthday”. I love stocking up on Birthday Cards – you can never have too many. I feel like I'm sending or giving out birthday cards every month with my huge extended family!

The inside of the booklet shows you everything that is included in this kit. The “Sweet Birthday” Card Kit includes:

  • Cards
  • Envelopes
  • Cardstock
  • Patterned paper
  • Die-cut sheets
  • Acetate sheets
  • Ribbons
  • Glitter Dots
  • Self-cling rubber stamps

You will also need the Cardmaker Tool Kit (which is included with your first shipment and has a bone folder, stamp block, ruler, etc.), scissors or a paper cutter, a black stamp pad or black marker, adhesive, and foam adhesive dots.

Our favorite paper cutter is this Fiskars Rotary Trimmer and favorite adhesive to use is Tombow Mono Adhesive Applicator. We also like StazOn ink pads for black ink.

There are detailed instructions on each page, with all the dimensions you need to cut the card stock and patterned paper.

Annie's gives you instructions for 4 different cards, but they include enough materials to make you own designs, too.

Here is the last card design…

Now, let's take a closer look to see the materials that are included with this month's kit!

Patterned Paper and Cardstock

I am loving the blue, purple, and green color scheme of this card kit! These cards can given to women, men, girls, and boys!

Die-Cut Sheets with Birthday Themed Die Cuts

These die cuts are perfect for mixing and matching. There are cupcakes, donuts, ice cream cones, cake stand, birthday messages, and more!

Cake Dome Acetate Sheets

These cake dome acetate sheets will be used to add some dimension and style to the cards.

Blue and Purple Pre-Scored Cards& Envelopes

I like that Annie's sends pre-scored cards. It makes for an easier, more professional look!

Happy Birthday Self-Cling Rubber Stamps

These stamp messages are perfect for displaying birthday wishes either on the outside or inside of the cards we are going to make.

Here is the back of the stamps.

Glitter Dots & Ribbon

These glitter dots are tiny and cute. We also got some with and purple ribbon.

Now, I'll show you the before, during, and after of each of these cards. Per the instructions, I cut the card stock and patterned paper using the included dimensions.

Happy Birthday Cupcake Card

Here are all of the materials we needed to make the “Happy Birthday Cupcake” Card.

This card was very easy to make using the layering technique. The acetate cake dome added a nice touch to this card!

Here's another look at this card in better lighting.

I also made a second card using the same background, but with a different cupcake and birthday sentiment.

Here is this card in better lighting.

Sweet Wishes Card

Here are all of the materials we needed to make the “Sweet Wishes” Card. The donut cut-out is making me hungry for Krispy Kreme!!! 🙂

This card required stamping a “Sweet Wishes” message on a cut-out.

I don't think I inked up the stamp enough, but I think the card still turned out to be pretty darn cute!

Here is the card in better lighting.

And here is my version of the card using the blue card and a cupcake and a “Sprinkle With Love” message.

Celebrate Card

This card design is the most intriguing to me because it has a pop-up tag message. I have never tried this cardmaking technique before.

To make the “pocket” for the tag, we used a nickel to trace a half circle onto the card.

Then I cut it the traced half circle using scissors.

For the pop-up tag, I used the included piercing tool from our first kit to make holes to cut a slit in the tag for the ribbon.

After I inserted the ribbon, I tied it up and cut off the loose ends.

This is what the finished card looked like.

And here's my version of this card.

I really love this pop-up tag concept! It adds an element of surprise to this card.

You Can Never Have Too Many Sprinkles Card

This card was super quick and easy to make.

I agree that you can never have too many sprinkles, especially on your birthday!

This card used the glitter dots, which helps dress up a very simple, yet colorful card.

And here is my version of the card using the same sprinkle paper background, but different cupcakes and a “Life is Short, Eat Cake!” message.

In Summary

I really adored the “sweet” designs in the “Sweet Birthday” Annie's Cardmaker Kit-of-the-Month Club kit. The cards are super professional looking, colorful, and we are blast to make! I learned a new cardmaking technique with the pop-up tag card and pocket – a new skill that I can add to my card making repertoire. I love how Annie's includes nearly everything you need to make these cards, so they would be the perfect gift for the beginning card maker, or a seasoned card maker who loves convenience and pre-meditated design. 🙂

It would be nice if someone would walk us newbies through the first card. Do I open the card from the side, or from the bottom? I bought Annies Cardmaker Kit of the Month Club with the green and purple strip paper. Thank you

Now I see the card is top folded.
