Annie’s CardMaker Kit-of-the-Month Club January 2020 Review “Love Shakers”

This month's kit came in a nice violet mailer.

This is our first peek at what we got in this month's kit!

Each month, Annie's includes an instruction booklet. You can see that this month's theme of “Love Shakers” is just in time for Val

entine's Day! The technique for this month is Shaker Cards.

The inside of the booklet shows you everything that is included in this kit. The Love Shaker's Kit includes:

  • Cards
  • Envelopes
  • Cardstock
  • Patterned paper
  • Die-cut sheets
  • Acetate sheets
  • Sequins
  • Twin
  • Adhesive foam strips
  • Self-cling rubber stamps

You will also need the Cardmaker Tool Kit (which is included with your first shipment and has a bone folder, stamp block, ruler, etc.), scissors or a paper cutter, a black stamp pad or black marker, and adhesive.

Our favorite paper cutter is this Fiskars Rotary Trimmer and favorite adhesive to use is Tombow Mono Adhesive Applicator. We also like StazOn ink pads for black ink.

There are detailed instructions on each page, with all the dimensions you need to cut the card stock and patterned paper.

Annie's gives you instructions for 4 different cards, but they include enough materials to make you own designs too.

Now, let's take a closer look to see what's inside this month's kit!

Die-Cut Sheets with Valentine Themed Die Cuts

I love the gold, pink, and blue colors in these die cut sheets!

Acetate Sheets

These acetate sheets will be used as the “window” for the shaker sequins and heart shapes.

Patterned Paper and Cardstock

The heart and floral patterned paper has nice gold accents. I love how all of the color coordination of paper is done for you. I struggle with that when trying to pick out my own paper at Michael's or Joann's.

Sequins, Heart Confetti, and Twine

The pink, gold, and blue theme continues with these sequins, heart confetti, and twine. The sequins and confetti are going to give these cards some extra bling, for sure!

Self-Cling Rubber Stamps

These stamp messages are perfect for spreading love this Valentine's Day.

White Pre-Scored Cards

I like that Annie's sends pre-scored cards. It makes for an easier, more professional look!

White Envelopes

The white envelopes are perfectly sized for the cards.

Now, I'll show you the before, during, and after of each of these cards.

XO Card

For the XO Card, you'll need the grey hearts patterened paper, sequins, XO die cuts and hearts, acetate window, card, and adhesive foam strips. The Tombow adhesive is something I always have on hand at home.

The acetate cut outs are applied to the border die cuts to create a window for the sequins.

The adhesive foam strips help to raise the window so the sequins can be piled onto your card.

You can see how I piled the sequins on top of the card.

And this is what the card looks like after I adhered the “window” on top of the pile of sequins.

The final XO card looked like this. How adorable is this card?!?

I Love You With All My Heart Card

The I Love You With All My Heart Card requires the pink arrows patterned paper, floral patterned paper, pink twine, tag die cut, heart confetti, acetate heart, and white card.

This stamp required stamping and “I Love You” and “With All My Heart” message on the die cut tag.

This card used pink twine to decorate the front of the card and add interest to the card.

Here is a final version of the card. In this case, I used a different stamped message of “Sending Happy Thoughts”. I love the blend of floral paper and shiny hearts.

Hugs Love Bug

This card required the pink hearts patterned paper, grey hearts patterned paper, die cuts, acetate heart, card, and heart confetti.

Here, you can see the heart window making in progress.

And here is the finished card, right after I was done making it.

How cute are the ladybugs on this card!?! I love the gold “hugs” lettering – it goes really well with the gold hearts on the grey patterned paper.

Forever & Always Card

This card required a lot of different patterned paper, sequins, acetate heart, and card.

This card used the “quilting” technique introduced in a previous Annie's CardMaker Kit-of-the-Month Club kit.

Once we adhered all of the patterned paper to the card, we cut it off to make it match the edges of the card stock.

Here is the completed card right after I finished it.

And here is the card in better light. 🙂

The next 2 cards that I made were not included in the instruction booklet. This is what I love about this card making kit – you can also create your own designs with the extra materials.

Thanks Mason Jar Card

For this card, I used the same background as the Forever & Always Card. I just used the mason jar die cuts & acetate, and the thanks die cut.

Here is the complete card. I also added some pink twine as a decorative touch to the lid of the mason jar.

And here is the card in better lighting.

Love Floral Hearts Card

For this card, I used the same background as the Hugs Love Bug Card, but used the floral die cuts, acetate circle, love gold lettering, and heart confetti.

This is the completed card.

And here is another shot of the card. I really like this design if I do say so myself! 🙂

The Love Shaker Cards in the January Annie's Cardmaker Kit-of-the-Month Club were so much fun to make! The color palette was amazing and is perfect with Valentine's Day right around the corner. This was my first time making shaker style types of cards, and now that I know how to make them, I can add this skill to my card making repertoire!

What do you think of these Love Shaker Cards?
