Japan Candy Box April 2019 Review + Giveaway

Japan Candy Box sends their monthly goodies in a cute violet themed box!

Here's our first look inside.

The info card tells you what the box theme is. This month's theme is Sakura Surpise! Sakura is also known as Cherry Blossom. The card explains that one of the most popular Japanese customs is “Hanami” which is known as a Cherry Blossom Festival that takes place each Spring.

You get an English description of each candy or snack – which is super helpful because the packages in this box all have Japanese writing!

Now, let's get on to the goodies in the box!

Ginbiz Choco Bar Z

This is a sweet, crunchy chocolate flavored corn snack.

We really enjoyed the crunchiness and chocolate flavor of this snack!

Morinaga Ototo Seasonal Vegetable Crackers

These crackers are iconic in Japan. They are shaped like vegetables, animals, or even gardening accessories like a scarecrow or rake!

The taste of these crackers is really different and would be a hit with kids because of the adorable shapes!

Seika Long Grape Gum

This is a super long strip of grape gum that is great for sharing!

My kids really liked the flavor of this gum and kept coming back for more!

Glico Cratz Edamame Salted Soy Bean Snacks

These edamame snacks aren't too crunchy or too soft. They're mixed with almonds so would go well with any beverage of your choice!

The “cubed” form of the edamame was the first I've seen – these snacks were quite tasty for edamame!

Morinaga Chocoball Chocolate Banana Flavor

We've had these snacks before and loved them! The middle of this snack has a crunch cocoa biscuit that is encased with a chocolate flavored shell.

It's not easy to find banana chocolate flavored snacks here in the US, so this candy is a nice, different treat!

Baby Star Ramen Maru Noodle Snacks

These are like little baby ramen cakes.

The shape of these ramen cakes is so adorable!

The taste was pretty good if you like ramen! This snack was well seasoned with just the right amount of salt!

Kit Kat Lyokan Mandarin Orange

Lyokan means “I have a good feeling”. This is basically a Kit Kat bar with white chocolate with oranges infused into the bar.

I can tell you that the appearance of this bar isn't what I would typically expect from Kit Kat, but the taste was very good and unique!

Long Sakeru Peeling Gummy Mandarin Orange

This was one of my favorite treats in this box! It's basically like a gummy candy strip that tastes like orange Jello!

The long strip is meant for sharing and my kids shared (luckily!), but it was gone in a flash!

Bourbon Petit Black Cocoa & Vanilla Cream Biscuits

These cookies look like and taste like mini Oreos. They are a bit more chocolaty than US Oreos, but still good!

I especially like the swirly detail of the face of the cookie!

Kabaya Juicy C Grape Candy

This candy has been popular with Japanese kids since the 1960's. It's basically like a Smartie, but bursting with grape flavor!

The cylindrical container is fun and portable too!

The Verdict

We were impressed with the variety of sweet candies and savory snacks in this box. Since it's not easy for us to get Japanese candies at our local store, it was a nice treat to experience a bit of Japanese culture with Japan Candy Box! If you know someone who loves to travel and enjoys trying new snacks from other countries, this box would make a great gift for them!
