Universal Yums November 2020 Review
Universal Yums shipped their November snacks n a cobalt blue box. We are reviewing the Yum Yum Box which includes 12+ snacks and is $25/month.
The theme of the November box is “Off We Go to Italy!”. This is the cover of the guidebook.
The inside of the info booklet has a lot of great detail on the snack itself, what region or town the snack originated in, and ingredient/nutrition info! I love the ingredient info because we have both a peanut and gluten allergy in my household.
This month’s snacks come from Italy – where we’ll find snacks from Venice, Florence, Rome and other cities! I traveled to Italy years ago and loved my visit there!
A “Yum Scoreboard” was included – which is great if you want to taste these snacks with your family and friends. You also get a chance to vote on the theme of an upcoming box, which is pretty cool! I think I would vote for New Zealand!
We also got a fun sticker of Mona Lisa with chocolate on her mouth!
Now, let’s get a closer look at all of these great snacks from Italy!
The Yum Bag with Selz Soda Fizzy Lemon Candy, Milk Chocolate with Strawberry Pop Rocks, and Tiramisu Cream Chocolate Balls
Selz Soda Fizzy Lemon Candy – In Italy, locals like fizzy water and lots of different seltzer flavors, so it would make sense there is a fizzy candy! We loved the tasted of this candy!
Milk Chocolate with Strawberry Pop Rocks – Strawberries grown in the town of Nemi are grown in a volcanic crater, where sunlight is ample and wind is minimal. Strawberries are plumper and juicier that those grown anywhere else in Italy. These chocolate truffles have strawberry pop rocks which help take “volcanic” to a new level in your mouth! My boys loved these truffles!
Tiramisu Cream Chocolate Balls – I am a huge fan of Tiramisu as a dessert, so I was super excited to see this dessert in a milk chocolate ball – straight from Italy! It was super creamy and had all of the perfect coffee-infused flavors that you would expect from Tiramisu.
Lemon & Pepper Tarallini
These are crunchy bread spirals that are an Italian go-to snack. They’re available in countless flavors, and this one has a blend of both lemon and pepper. These had an interesting flavor, but not sure I would buy these on a regular basis.
Italian Black Truffle Potato Chips
Black truffle is used in Italian gourmet cooking, so it would make sense there is a black truffle potato chip in Italy! Black truffle is a gourmet fungi that is one of Italy’s most valuable foods – it has to be sniffed out by trained dogs! Since I like black truffle, these chips are pretty good!
Ketchup Potato Chips
Amica is the #1 chip brand in Italy, and chips became popular in Italy in the last 30 years. Amica has chips with traditional flavors and new ones like this – ketchup! My boys really liked this flavor – it helps that they love eating ketchup too!
Orange Zest Carrot Cake
Italian style carrot cake apparently has a dash of orange zest. This carrot cake definitely has that orange citrusy flavor – my boys loved this cake too!
Hazelnut Milk Chocolate Bar
The Piedmont region of Northern Italy has hazelnuts that are natively grown. They are smaller, sweeter, and nuttier than those grown in Turkey or the US. This is the top selling chocolate bar in Italy, and I can see why. It tasted amazing!
Italian Amarettini
These are tasty almond cookies that are Italian icons when it comes to snacking. I do have to say that they reminded me of eating biscotti – they were also pretty good!
Tomato & Oregano Bruschetta
Bruschetta is as old as Rome itself. I love that this bruschetta is a snack that you can take on the go – I am used to eating it in restaurants only. It has a slight pizza taste and has great tomato and oregano flavors.
Raspberry & Almond Dark Chocolate Bar
I have to say this was my favorite treat in this Universal Yums box. I am a sucker for any dark chocolate bar, and this bar had an amazing texture and taste with raspberry bits infused into the bar. Italians buy 12.5 million tons of dark chocolate per year, compared to just under 4.5 million tons of milk chocolate!
Cranberry Froletti
This is a crumbly cookie, which Italians prefer! They are better for dunking into drinks like cookies, wine, and milk! These cookies were also very good!
In Summary
We really enjoyed reviewing the Universal Yums November 2020 Box! I really felt we were able to taste many different Italian snacks and treats that I probably wouldn’t even know to try – and I have been to Italy before! My boys adore trying snacks from around the world, and this is a fun (and delicious!) way for us to spend time together and fill our bellies with yummy goodies. I love how Universal Yums includes both sweet and salty snacks in their box AND they also include nutritional info for those with allergies and dietary restrictions!
