Toucan Kids Craft Box March 2019 Review
The Toucan Box sends their craft projects in a blue box in a kid-appropriate themed box! They also put your child's name on the box, which is a nice touch!
Here's our first look into the box. We got 2 projects: 1) Nature Bag and 2) Aboriginal Bowl. My 7-year old was
The inside flap of the box introduces you to Toucan box. It also says that if you refer your friends to Toucan Box, you'll get 50% off for each friend that signs up.
Now, let's get on to the actual craft projects!
Nature Bag
This craft project is a tie-dye project to make your own nature bag.
You get a pre-packaged bag of all the materials you need to make the project!
After taking the materials out of the bag, this is what we got. A canvas bag, some colored tissue paper squares, markers, a tracing template, tin foil, a paintbrush, colored cards, and full-color instructions.
I'm a huge fan of full colored instructions with photos to help little ones be able to see what they are supposed to do in picture form.
The first step was to cut and lay the tissue paper onto the pre-cut tin foil sheet. Then we “painted” the tissue paper with water.
We laid out the blank canvas bag…
… and pressed the wet tissue paper on to the canvas bag to get a tie-dye effect.
This is what our bag looked like – it looked a bit messy but we weren't done yet!
After tracing the shapes with the template, this is what our finished bag looked like!
We also got cards you can cut out to put in your nature bag for each season of the year.
Aboriginal Bowl
Aboriginal means “inhabiting or existing in a land from the earliest times or from before the arrival of colonists; indigenous” and also “relating to the Australian Aborigines or their languages”.
This craft project is essentially a paper mâché project.
Here are all of the materials: 2 green balloons, paper mâché paper, 2 glue pens, black and white water color paint, and stickers.
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
To get started, we cut the paper strips out.
Then we “painted' the strips with the glue mixed with a little water.
Then we put the strips on the blown-up green balloon.
Here's some fo the progress that we made…
This was our finished product once we let the paper mâché dry overnight.
After we popped the balloon (which was fun for my son!), we ended up with this bowl shape.
Here's the bowl sitting on the table.
We painted the bowl with the included paint, but forgot the green stickers! Oops!
Here's another look at the bowl.
We also got fun stickers from the Toucan Box.
In Summary
We really liked the fun project ideas and materials that the Toucan Box sent this month. Paper mâché and tie dye are always fun projects, but not something that would instantly come to mind for me when I think of craft projects for kids. Both my 7-year old son and 11-year old daughter loved working on these projects. If you're looking for a great Easter gift for your kids, nieces, nephews, or grandkids – Toucan Box would make a great gift! You can buy gift cards or buy 6- or 12-month subscriptions.
