Here is our first peek into the box!

Now, let's get a closer look to see what we got!

Toppo Rich Milk Biscuit Sticks

These are Biscuit sticks that are filled with a rich milk flavor and cream cheese. These biscuits sticks are from Hokkaido, Japan northernmost prefecture. My boys really enjoyed eating these biscuits sticks!

Coris Koro Can Soday Soft Candy

When we first built into the soft candy it tasted like bubblegum, but you could actually chew it and swallow it. It has a soft and fluffy texture that is flavored with ramune soda, which is Japan's most popular soft drink.

Umami of Takayuki Ring Snacks

Takaoyaki is a Japanese Street Food that's filled with minced octopus and fried and pancake batter into balls. The snack reminded us of eating onion rings from the US but had the flavor of soy sauce as well. I didn't tell my boys about the minced octopus! Is that bad?!?

Big Thunder Chocolate Bar

Black Thunder is the best selling chocolate bar in Japan. It's known for its dark cocoa cookie center that's coated with chocolate. This bar reminded us of a chocolate covered pretzel or waffle, because it looks like one. This was one of my boys' favorite snacks in this box!

Kit Kat Sparkling Wine

My boys weren't quite sure if they should try this Kit Kat, given it has a sparkling wine taste, but they did it anyway. It's a special edition of Kit Kat that tastes like bubbling white wine with a hint of fresh strawberries. I could definitely taste it, but my boys didn't really know what they were tasting! 🙂

Ham Katsuaysan Pork Cutlet Senbel

Ham Katsu is a deep-fried cutlet made with slices of ham coated with breadcrumbs. It's a traditional snack that's eaten in Japan. This wasn't one of our favorite snacks, but I could see if you're really into ham or bacon how you might like the snack.

Sumikko Gurashi Rusk Biscuits

These rusk biscuits reminded us of croutons, but they tasted like deep-fried bread that was soaked in sweet milk. Sumikko Gurashi is Japan's popular character series.

Crunky Pretzel & Puffs Chocolate Bar

This W double flavor chocolate bar from Crunky is packed with Marc puffs and pretzel bits. I thought the taste of this bar was a lot like coffee, which was perfect for me but not so great for my boys. That just means there's more for me!

Chip Star Wars Wagyu Sukiyaki Potato Chips

My boys thought they were going to taste Japanese Pringles, but they got a much different taste. These are a potato chip but they have a strong beef flavor that is similar to Sukiyaki which is a famous winter Japanese beef dish that is served hot pot style.

Meigum Cake Party Soft Candy

The soft candy comes in three different cake flavors. My boys tried the strawberry flavor and I had the custard flavor. We were happy to try these candies to help bring in the New Year!

Wrap Up

My boys and I really loved trying new candies and snacks from Japan with the January 2021 Japan Candy box! I love seeing their faces when they experience new flavors. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's not so good. I would say they loved about ½ of the treats in this box, and I loved ¾ of them. 🙂 Our favorites were the Coris Koro Can Soda Soft Candy, Big Thunder Chocolate Bar, and Toppo Rich Milk Biscuit Sticks. There are so many great international foods that we especially can't get our hands on right now during the pandemic, so Japan Candy Box is a great way to explore Japanese treats!
